THE ORDINAL DRIVES AND THE TIME TRAVELING MESSAGES

It’s been a long time since I’ve been wanting to write this account.
It had become a true dilemma to decide whether or not I should reveal the secret to time traveling messaging. But I will come back to this subject later on.

———-

I cannot believe we are already in 2073. Everything has gone very fast. We live the present looking ahead. The river flows and disappears behind. We never really stop and think about what we have lived. Memories become files forgotten in an old solid state drive. Now I can relax and I can revive those memories in my head. In reality, the last 50 years have been a crazy ride. I raise my glass to you Nakamoto and to the Taproot Wizzards!

Everything has an origin and 2009 was the year of the genesis block. When Nakamoto showed the world the Bitcoin blockchain the world started to change.

I first heard about bitcoin at the third halving, the year of the first pandemic. I was 20 and I was studying computer sciences. When the Covid19 virus hit us, it was the first time the entire population was locked down indoors.
Now everybody is used to it. However, in those days, everybody got caught by surprise.

During the firs pandemic, we were all working at home, everybody was more connected than ever. It was crazy. Blockchain development and projects were coming up from everywhere. It is during the lockdown that I discovered bitcoin and all the networks that were flourishing with it. I was hooked immediately. You have to understand that less than 3% of the world population were involved with blockchain. Now, we all carry a node. Back then, It was the golden era of opportunity and innovation. If you thought you had found a really good idea, the next day there was already a team that had taken the lead publishing it.

In the early days, the vast majority were just getting involved for the volatile value of the crypto coins and the unimaginable wealths it produced in no time. The digital universe was called crypto, not blockchain. People were easily getting greedy and everything looked worth investing. Every thing was blooming, Finance projects, swap sites, staking, gaming, metaverse, fitness, NFTs, you name it. Just when money and financing was overflowing from everywhere, it all collapsed like a house of cards and the crypto winter of 2022 arrived.

Crypto winters were cyclical at the early stages of blockchain development. Once we reached broad stream adoption winters became shorter and shorter and finally disappeared. Winters were an indication of the true value of the blockchain adoption. In 2022, the blockchain projects with a real value were working underground while aboveground the majority of governments and classical banking systems started to realise the world order the way they wanted it to be was being threaten. That lead to governments deciding they needed to rule and control also the blockchain universe in order to survive.

It is much, much, later, that mankind, with the help of Artificial General Intelligence, started adopting and embracing the blockchain technology. That is how our civilisation achieved the state in which we live now in the seventies, by decentralising governments, banks, ministries, social security, home entertainment, and giving the power to manage and decide to the people. Politics, large companies, lobbies and funds were out of the game. Some chains remained partly centralised for the management of concrete physical establishments which required emotional intelligence.

Blokchain networks and AGI´s were at the inception of 21st century society where every single adult manages its own national and personal node. Artificial intelligence was able to rearrange the state legal structure and use it as a medium in which the AI analysed social improvement issues and put forward proposals that we vote on from our nodes. Everybody gets involved now. The node d-app alerts when a vote is required. It all started with the introduction of blockchain. It all happened in 50 years. It is surprising now to see how laws and politics were conducted in congress back in the twenties. In those years there were ruling parties and opposition parties made up of people who would never agreed on anything that did not give them a profit. Passing laws was the product of chains of favours, a machine with systematic corruption embedded to it. AGI´s changed it all.

In January of 2023, I came across an interview made to one of the founders of the Taproot Wizards, one of his first appearances on video. When I listened to him, I immediately got addicted to ordinal inscriptions. The Taproot Wizards had surfaced and their ideology was that bitcoin was magic and we needed to develop on it and expand it. They were right. They had managed to get people interested in sats as a unit. The Nostr platform and the lightning network began being commonly used. It is thanks to those pioneers that we now have a global bitcoin currency.

You see, back then, without including the altcoins running the techno chains, everybody was focused on Bitcoin as a unit of store of value. People were buying bitcoin, trading bitcoin, lending bitcoin, borrowing bitcoin and selling bitcoin. Bitcoin had too much associated value to be used to buy a bottle of milk. Therefore Bitcoin was never a palpable unit, it had always been the Satoshi. People did not visualise satoshis as a real currency until later on. The fiat currencies were composed by cents. The bitcoin was composed of Satoshis, one hundred million sats.

Right after the Ordinal Theory was published, I started working on inscriptions. It fascinated me I could attach something to a sat. I spent days and nights trying to find new types of files that could be attached. Ordinals were like a truck and we just wanted to develop the limits of its load. Spending countless hours in front of the screen typing code after code. For days at a time. I was unable to stop. I was a complete acro like the French say, “hooked to code”.

DIVAGATION, EARLY WORK AND THE ORIGINAL TIMELINE

Since an early age, I had always been interested with the idea of time travel. I divagated often on the subject. I devised many theories and I was proud of them. One time, I imagined that traveling to the future was quite risky because of its uncertainty. What if you traveled to the future and the earth was not longer there. Best is to travel to a certain future, at small time frames. Lengths of time that can be predicted. Then beacons would become necessary, so that the time line can be retraced back the same way a lighthouse shows the way to a boat. This thoughts on time beacons would pop up later in my work.

The concept of timeline is interesting in itself. Can you just unwind or rewind a clock to travel in time? What if time in itself was not a medium in which to be transported?
There was one occasion when I was waiting for an ordinal transaction for a long time. I had my eyes fixed on the word “unconfirmed”. That particular time it was taking much longer than the usual.
In a moment of pure mental abstraction, I imagined a stealth transaction unconfirmed for years, and that the sender could retrieve and confirm in the future. Could such a transaction confirmation travel back in time to carry out its outcome? How many confirmations would it require? I started wondering if the bitcoin blockchain could be the medium for time traveling information. My imagination completely absorbed my logical consciousness.

Let’s imagine for a moment that it is possible to send a signal from the future by way of the blockchain into the past. What is that signal going to correspond to? What is the outcome going to be? In the first place, why would you want to send a signal back in time. Apart from a scientific perspective, one of the most obvious reasons to travel back in time is to make money with true hindsight. Humanity has been motivated by ambition and greed.
Anyone could become very rich if he or her was able to obtain information from the future about investment opportunities. It got me thinking. In order to send myself information to the past I could try to transmit it via an inscription. However, in order to accomplish such a task, I must be able to alter an original inscription.

An inscription is permanent and immutable. How could I make it mutable.
When developing on this idea I realised ordinals did not need to be mutable if the inscription in itself was a container. A hollow immutable inscription that could store mutable information in itself.
If we develop further under the assumption that it is possible to send time traveling messages, the beacons in the timeline, as I mentioned earlier, would correspond with the dates in which the containers were minted.
At the time, I did not need to worry about a time travelling messaging machine, which seemed like a complete absurdity. I could just start by constructing the mail boxes to receive the messages from the future.

That is exactly what I focused on, constructing an ordinal drive on top of a sat. A drive with a maximum capacity of 4 Mega bytes minus the weight of the drive itself.
If you look back at the history of memory devices, whatever capacity was achieved at one moment in time, it was increased soon afterward. Ordinals would not remain constrained by a maximum capacity of 4 megabytes for long. We were not dealing with a physical drive but a digital one. Considering also the speed at which technology was developing, I imagined it would not take long before we discovered a new way of compressing data that would allow to store much more into the same recipient, like a Terabyte inside a Megabyte.

I read a story once about a traveler that was going to be tele-transported from earth to mars. He complained that during tele-transporting, one dyes and is cloned back at the point of destiny. If the body gets pulverised and reconstructed, what does really travel in the tele-trasnporting machine? The cellular genetic map of the individual and its consciousness? Can consciousness be transformed into a digital file? It is a subject open to debate. A digital replica can become a personification of a subject if is supported by a big data of information about such subject. It will not have the emotional input to process new information as a human, but it can still be witness of new events from a logical and objective stand, as could do an artificial intelligence. So imagine if we could transmit a whole consciousness from the future into one ordinal drive in the past. Extract it and un-shrink it and you have your time traveling conscience.

Just for the sake of some mental science fiction. Could you really un-shrink an AI from the future? Technological development and innovation is progressive and if there was really a way to transmit data into the past, you could start by building a library of everything you need to receive more complex information. Send me the plans to build the code that will support the AI from the future. The final conclusion every time I finished divagating was that for me the most important task was to build the drives, the time mail boxes.

The drive needed to be somehow formatted but also needed to be elastic to be able to expand if its capacity could be increased later. Imagine finding a way to put an elephant in a balloon. In coding, everything is achievable.
It took me two and a half years to figure it out and build the first ordinal drive. The first mail box had a storage capacity of 900 Kilobytes. It was minted on the 16 August 2025. That date was the point of origin of the “mail box road to the future”. For the future, it was the furthest back a message could go. I cannot describe how accomplished I felt. I had decided to work in secret so I celebrated by myself. I had started paving the way for a time travel messaging machine. How awesome is that?

I continued to refine and debug the first prototype to increase its capacity. The second one I built could store 2 MB. When I completed minting it, I realised it was difficult to the point of impossible to find out what the inscriptions were on an explorer platform. I was afraid other developers could pick up on this new type of ordinals and be able to reverse engineer it. So I burned the two prototypes and I started to work on how to give the drives a skin, a camouflage. The minting of ordinal inscriptions was trending and I started minting my drives with the most frivolous image I could think of, fruity like coming out of the pac-man game. Time messaging was going to be about gulping the prizes of the pac-man lane.

Once I considered my drives were finally perfect, I just needed to mint them on a regular basis. I did not know if what I was planning was ever going to work. I considered that I could just mint a new drive every month or so. It would also depend on market conditions and minting costs.

THE TIME MACHINE

Trying to figure out how to build a Time Machine from scratch is quite a challenging task. I was a developer and I had created the destination drives. They were on the Bitcoin blockchain. Earlier on I raised the question what if the blockchain was the medium for traveling in time. There is no human intervention in the making of the Bitcoin blockchain, keys and transactions, mathematical verifications, encrypted ledger. So, what if it was possible to reverse engineer the blockchain, unravel it until reaching one of the drives, store data in it, and weave it back as it was.

The only way I could think of to unravel a blockchain is by working with a blockchain that is isolated from the permanent influence of social interaction and new transactions. How could I isolate the blockchain? Could I mirror the blockchain into a virtual space where I could manipulate a virtual copy of the original blockchain?

My new research had gone in pursuit of the idea of creating a Bitcoin blockchain simulator. I had entered a period of my life where all of my work was pure theory. I felt like I was wasting my time fantasising about absurd ideas. I could not put anything in practice. At the time my work could be considered delusional. The resources to carry out such a plan did not exist yet. Artificial intelligence was raging in every field of work and it had become an essential tool for working with quantum computers. So I decided to enrol back to college to learn about quantum programming.

I could not longer survive economically if I dedicated my time to a theoretical concept. Furthermore, the minting of new ordinal drives on a regular basis was burning a hole in my pocket.
So I divided my time into research and subsistence. I approached some freelance devs and began collaborating with some groups with the object of raising some income. We had some good times. I knew quite a few tricks about ordinals and some of our projects made sensation even long after the blockchain boom of the twenties. That procured me enough cash flow for my ongoing research.

I also worked on semantic compression in the programming language with the use of an AI in order to develop the coding for increasing the useful capacity of the 4 MB drives. Each year that went by, more innovative advances were made. On the other hand, for my project, every thing was moving as fast as a snail, but it was moving forward anyway. Little by little I started gathering the knowledge and know-how. The hardware was the problem. I would need some serious financing to continue with my plan of building a Time Machine.

In 2042 I finally had a proof of concept for a new type of vectorial compression based on a new basic value alphabet I developed with the AI. It allowed for storing less data in a smaller shell, greatly reducing the size of any type of file. I decided to patent and publish the compression file, which I called Shrnk, pronounced shrink. It became a sensation instantly. It reduced completely the cloud energy demands of the beginning of the century, which were enormous at the time. I made far more money than I imagined it was possible. I had become financially able to fund all the equipment, installations and energy needs for my personal laboratory and blockchain simulator.

I figured I would need large amounts of energy if I wanted to unweave and re-weave the Bitcoin blockchain. In theory, the process would not require mining but would take almost the same or more computational power than for mining. I started looking for a suitable location for my installation. I got in touch with a mining company that had previously worked in the energy management sector and had an installation connected directly to a nuclear power plant. They plugged me into the grid and hosted the miners which I needed for my work on the simulator. I linked the miners to the AI and started building the environment for the Time Machine.

I started constructing a very basic virtual environment for the node so that I could give the blockchain a tridimensional shape. Working with a visual image of the blockchain allowed me to understand the unweaving process requirements with a clear perspective. I had found a way to mirror the blockchain to the image and then to decouple the live chain from the copy in the virtual environment. After that, I integrated to the system a quantum computer and instructed the AI to create the code of the blockchain unweaving protocol.

Imagine an artificial intelligence facing the profile of the blockchain from the present moment and executing backwards every single transaction until reaching the target ordinal drive, store the data into the drive, and reweave every single transaction forward until reaching the latest block in the live chain and re-couple the two together. And it worked. Bitcoin was magical again. I was a wizzard!

TIME TRAVELING MESSAGES

Through out my life, I had imagined and worked on a single idea, to send messages back in time. When it was finally possible, I did not know what to send.

Time traveling is complicated due to the high risk of altering events in the time line causing it to fork. I had lived my timeline. My life had been fulfilling. I had no regrets. I had gone through some highly depressing epochs to other happy and even euphoric years. Before I invented Shrnk, I was earning enough to just carry on. Now at 73, I have the satisfaction of having created the greatest of all inventions and I do not have the economic need to put it in use.
So, what could I tell myself in the past?

In this century, the word “trending” has been given a place in history. Influencers of beginning of century began detaching from corporate funding and started to get income from their audiences. It became a trend in audiences to feel decentralised, to feel free off someone else’s grip or prying eye. The mechanics of social engineering changed unexpectedly. People started to reject the use of brands or services that were the ownership of only one person of one selected group. Trending made the de-centralised networks win over the favour of the people. New start ups were decentralised from the start. Investment capital came from the various dedicated DAO.s operating with self governed liquidity pools.

You see, the digital universe belongs to the people. It was like the Wild Wide West of the 19th century without all the killing. People had to learn to defend themself, to safeguard their identity and privacy and to protect their wealth. Governments wanted to create the idea that everybody needed to be protected from the digital universe. They also tried to blame the fault to illicit and fraudulent operations. They tried to ban staking and to ban stable coins. They even tried to ban bank transfers. The physical establishment wanted to extrapolate their power to control humanity into the virtual universe and when they failed to do it they tried to ban blockchain. It lead to a full blown social revolution.

The biggest achievement of mankind was to acknowledge that the physical establishment could not be allowed to rule the virtual order. The human paradigm did not fit in the digital universe. After the social blockchain revolution, the physical establishment was segregated from digital space. If you wanted to take money out of the digital to the physical world you paid the corresponding taxes. If you wanted to take money from the physical to the digital world you paid the fees. You paid taxes on your day to day life and digital fees in the networks. The governments kept the management of the state and communities managed the digital space, the DAOs, the decentralised autonomous organisations.

The biggest fraud ever carried out was the selling of properties in the digital space. One of the pre-modern era thoughts was to extrapolate the physical world into the digital world and rule and control it the same way. As amazing as it sounds, it took a long time for people to understand that the digital space is a tridimensional dynamic blank space. Nobody needs to map it or own it as a two-dimensional environment or grid. The metaverse is a collection of immersive spaces which just need to be linked by public keys. You create an immersive experience in a dynamic environment with a theme and people then travel from place to place instantly.

With time, the classical banking system lost ground and the blockchain tide flooded all real world activities. It became impossible to separate accountability. The management of the physical world was transferred to DAO´s as well.

NOTES

The first message I sent back in time just went one hour back. It was obvious tests needed to be run before going further. In my first time line I had imagined and finally created.

I am not posting this document on one of my ordinal drives otherwise with the resources of your time you would not be able to read the document. I asked myself to publish it as a standard text inscription. I am giving you a hint of what can be done with the Bitcoin chain and I will not reveal how you can do it. The tiger never teaches everything he knows.

I found some complications to store a full uncorrupted copy in the ordinal drive. I would check the drive and would find the data had been damaged and unable to be extracted successfully. I had to revise the process of compression numerous times to ensure it could stand the unweaving process without loosing any data that would render the package unreadable. However, it was a real success that I could send data to the past, even if corrupted by the traveling process. I debugged the system but still the files were unreadable once stored on the ordinal drive.
